These are Lindsay’s tips for her 4 day trip to Iceland in April. She’s in the food industry, so food was very important as well as taking advantage of Iceland’s outdoor activities. The restaurant price point was high and the lodging price point was mid to upper.

Who & what? Reykjavik and the Golden Circle for 4 days in April. A family trip with my mom, four siblings and a significant other, all in their late 20s and early 30s. I’m Lindsay, and I’m in the food industry, so food was very important as well as taking advantage of Iceland’s outdoor activities. The restaurant price point was high and the lodging price point was mid to upper.

Any lodging, restaurants or activities especially awesome?

Lodging: We stayed at Centerhotel Thingholt, which was in great location and perfect for what we needed.

Restaurants: Saegreifinn, good shish kabobs, fish stew and lobster chowder as I recall.

Fish Company was AMAZING. I was really impressed by the quality here, it deserves a Michelin star or even 2. I was impressed by all of the restaurants we went to but I think this tops them all.

Grill Market had a really cool atmosphere, hip vibe (we saw Kim and Kanye there!) and had a nice fun and exotic tasting menu (ashamed to admit it but we did try the puffin and the whale).

Apotek also had a really good and hip vibe. It was tapas style so you can share and try a lot of things which we like in my fam.

Activities: Golden circle gourmet food tasting tour was awesome. I definitely recommend doing this instead of the standard golden circle tour.Iceberg hiking was a highlight, as was black the sand beach, hot springs and waterfalls.

Dislikes/things you would have done differently? I’d probably stay one extra day.

If you had one more/less day? I think we could’ve probably spent more time in reykjavik and do a show or a concert at the Harpa Concert Hall on the harbor. Also would have been cool to rent a car and get out a little further but that probably requires a few more days. There’s nothing I’d skip, 4 days is a minimum for Iceland I think.

Any other tips? Look at schedule at Harpa and book concert tickets in advance. I was very disappointed with WOW airlines as they changed the flight departure time on our way there several times (delayed it then advanced it to earlier than original scheduled departure time without notice). Then they lost my luggage and it was a nightmare to retrieve. I’d opt for Iceland Air next time.
